From the industrial revolution, to the birth of the computer , Manchester has a history of creativity, innovation and pioneering research and development that is recognised worldwide.
According to Tech Nation, Manchester is the largest tech cluster outside London – with 51,901 employees in the sector. It also has the UK’s second highest GVA growth – 92% between 2010 and 2014 – while having a total digital turnover at £2.2bn, the fourth highest in the UK.
In 2015, an innovative project aimed at improving services for its residents chose Manchester as the winner of a £10m Government-led technology competition.
The project aimed to test better services using the Internet of Things (IoT) technology that added sensors and data analysis to equipment like streetlamps, vehicles or home heating equipment.
Internet of Things is a major area of growth and a report by independent consultants Arup estimates that the global value of the Internet of Things sector will exceed £255 billion a year by 2020.
The city in the Northern part of UK is not only proving its potential to become a technology powerhouse but is also forging innovation, investment and entrepreneurship. Investors have recognised the ability of Manchester’s economy to create jobs and attract talent to the region making it a prime base for expertise.
As Greater Manchester transforms into the next Silicon Valley, property developers are driven to create more affordable commercial and residential spaces to foster the growth of talent and encourage tech professionals to live, work, learn and thrive.
