The Sunday Times says Manchester is England’s most exciting (and liveable) big city

Four places in Greater Manchester make the Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2017 list

The Sunday Times Best Places to Live in the UK 2017 survey is broken up into regions. The north west category is dominated by Greater Manchester and Cheshire, where six of the 12 best places are located.

Ancoats, Chorlton, Ramsbottom and Saddleworth in Greater Manchester all make the list together with two places in Cheshire – Knutsford, the overall regional winner, and leafy Lymm.

The Sunday Times says Manchester is England’s most exciting (and liveable) big city and advises ‘early adopters’ to head to Ancoats where ‘a surprisingly smart residential district is taking shape.’

Chorlton is ‘no longer up and coming, but a long way from over the top’ whilst Lymm is ’properly pretty’ and ‘worth living in for the duck race alone.’

Ramsbottom proves it’s perfectly safe to live north of Manchester. It’s far from grim in this ‘increasingly desirable market town’ but the best thing about Ramsbottom is that it’s ‘a fantastic place to eat.’

Saddleworth makes the list for its ‘old fashioned Yorkshire charm.’

Other places which are described as ‘hot’ but don’t make the list are Chapel Street (‘now fancy enough for the football aristocracy’), Stockport (being put on the map by the ‘stylishly refurbished’ Savoy Cinema) and Levenshulme (‘the first in line to take over from Chorlton when it loses its shine’).

‘Even Salford is glamorous now’, says The Sunday Times.
